Two finishing processes, both done before you buy
Garment washing tumbles the finished sheet with water and agitation, relaxing the fibers and releasing the tension held in a new weave, the process that would otherwise take a month of home laundering. Brushing then raises a fine nap on the fabric surface by passing it over fine wire brushes, lifting the fiber ends to scatter light and soften contact with the skin. Together they produce a matte, lived-in surface rather than the flat sheen of an unfinished cotton.

Cotton fibers are hollow and naturally moisture-absorbent, drawing perspiration away from the skin and releasing it into the air rather than holding it at the surface. Weight determines how much air the weave traps: lightweight cotton offers little insulation, heavyweight flannel traps a great deal. A medium-weight weave holds enough still air to feel warm on a cold night while remaining open enough for airflow when the room heats up.
