Bed Bases

About Our Bed Bases Collection

A mattress base is a flat, stable surface that works as a structural foundation sitting beneath your mattress. Choosing the right base matters just as much as choosing the right mattress, since the wrong foundation provides inadequate support and affects longevity.

No matter how good your mattress is, a poor bed base can lead to premature sagging and result in an uncomfortable sleep surface. At Cloudy, our bed base collection contains adjustable bases, platform bases, metal foundations, and upholstered bed frames from top brands.

Cloudy features top bed-base collections from top brands including iDealBed, Customatic, Malouf, South Bay, and Ashley, alongside the Cloudy Mattress platform line. Whether you need a queen-size bed base for a memory foam mattress, a high-profile foundation, a split king adjustable base, or a simple metal mattress base on a budget, our collection has got it all.

What Makes a Great Mattress Base?

For choosing the right mattress base, here is all you need to know:

Profile Height

Bed bases typically come in two standard profile heights. A 5-inch low-profile foundation that gives a more modern, streamlined look while sitting close to the ground. While, a 9-inch high-profile foundation raises the over-bed height, so one can easily get in and out of bed. It makes it an ideal choice for adults who have mobility problems.

Zero Clearance Design

Several premium bases in our collection, including select Customatic and iDealBed models, use a zero-clearance design. It eliminates the gap beneath standard bed frames and allows the bed to sit flush with the floor when not adjusted.

Foldable Mattress Foundation

The SleepTone Foldable Metal Platform Storage Bed Frame offers easy transport and storage, making it a practical choice since it doesn’t require a large vehicle.

Heavy Duty Weight Capacity

A quality base should support significant weight without weakening over time. Heavy-duty mattress bases in our collection are tested to support the combined weight of the mattress and sleeper, making them an ideal choice for heavy-weight individuals.

Upholstered Fabric Base Options

For sleepers who want their bed frame to double as a bedroom design feature, upholstered platform beds like the South Bay Hudson Tufted and Zoey models bring a tailored fabric finish that complements the mattress and bedding above.

Underbed Storage Clearance

Platform bases also offer adequate underbed clearance, making them a suitable choice for smaller bedrooms or apartments with limited storage space.

Box Spring Alternative Construction

Modern platform and metal foundation bases are designed as a complete box spring alternative, working just like a traditional box spring in a more contemporary way.

Who It's For

These bases are an ideal choice for:

Memory Foam Mattress Owners

Memory foam owners who want uninterrupted sleep should go for these bases. The best base for a memory foam mattress is a solid platform or slatted foundation with slats spaced no more than 3 inches apart.

Buyers Who Sleep Hot or Want a Modern Look

A low-profile foundation matches the aesthetic of your minimal background. It suits sleepers who prefer a contemporary bedroom aesthetic, with a bed sitting closer to the floor.

Heavier Sleepers

A heavy-duty foundation for king-size mattresses features reinforced steel construction, making it the right choice for heavyweight sleepers. These bases are known for supporting higher body weight without compromising long-term stability.

Buyers Already Replacing a Box Spring

For customers who are confused about whether to buy a box spring or a foundation, a modern platform base or a metal foundation serves the purpose. It works as a complete box spring alternative, providing a complete solution.

Shoppers Who Want a Furniture-Style Bed Frame

The South Bay Hudson and Zoey upholstered platform beds provide the support of a quality base and a tailored, furniture-grade appearance for the bedroom.
